When it’s all done, we can celebrate

Beware the orange cones.
Don’t despair. It will be worth the inconvenience.
It’s hard to imagine right now but some time this fall, we’ll be driving around town just to enjoy the streets.
Barricades, orange traffic cones and a small army of cement trucks make driving this summer an adventure at best and a misadventure at worst.
Remember, it takes time to fix every street in town. The weather hasn’t been cooperative. Our patience is growing thin . . . but if we can hold out for a few months . . . just imagine. (more…)

Civil disobedience only route to take in saving Blanchard bridge

Novelist Robert James Waller found a story in the heart of Iowa that made popular the bridges of Madison County.
The feature film starring Madison County’s historic covered bridges along with Clint Eastwood and Meryl Streep, in our humble opinion, couldn’t hold a bedside reading lamp to the novel The Bridges of Madison County. Simply said, it was a good movie but a better read.
That said, everyone — movie goers and readers alike — fell in love with the old covered bridges of Madison County.
We dare say even ol’ Clint, better known for his spaghetti westerns and .44 Magnum detective flicks than his love stories originating in the heart of Iowa in the 1950s, shared an appreciation for Madison County’s cedar-covered bridges.
How could he not?
We need to have Clint Eastwood visit Traill County.
